How to Become a Marketplace Seller in Uzbekistan

A step-by-step guide for anyone who wants to start selling on Uzum Market, Wildberries, Yandex Market and other platforms — from business registration to your first shipment. Prepared by the Sellers Association of Uzbekistan.

In Short: What You Need to Start

To become a seller in Uzbekistan you need to: register as a sole proprietor or legal entity (a tax resident of Uzbekistan), choose a product with proven demand and calculated unit economics, find a supplier, open a seller account on your chosen marketplace, prepare product listings and organize your first shipment. A realistic starting budget is 5–10 million UZS.

7 Steps to Your First Sales

  1. 1

    Register Your Business

Marketplaces work only with sole proprietors and legal entities that are tax residents of Uzbekistan. Sole proprietor registration is done online via my.gov.uz within a day. Sort out your tax regime and receipt fiscalization early.

  2. 2

    Choose a Product

The most important step. Look not for 'what you like' but for a product with stable demand, a clear margin and moderate competition. Study categories on Uzum and Wildberries, check the number of sellers, prices and reviews.

  3. 3

    Calculate Unit Economics

Before buying stock, calculate the full chain: purchase price, delivery to warehouse, marketplace commission, packaging, advertising, returns, taxes. If less than 20–30% of the sale price remains, look for another product or supplier.

  4. 4

    Find a Supplier

Main channels: local manufacturers and wholesale markets in Uzbekistan, China (1688, factories via agents), Turkey. Start with a small test batch — it shows real demand without major risk.

  5. 5

    Open a Seller Account

On Uzum Market and Wildberries, registration for Uzbekistan residents takes from one to several days: you will need your business documents and a bank account.

  6. 6

    Prepare Product Listings

The listing sells: quality photos, infographics with benefits, complete specifications, an accurate title with keywords. Poor content is the main reason newcomers get no sales even with a good product.

  7. 7

    Organize Logistics and Promotion

Choose your fulfillment scheme (marketplace warehouse or your own), make your first shipment and start promotion: platform ads, promotions, reviews and pricing. The first 2–4 weeks are a test period — watch the analytics and adjust.

Where to Learn

The marketplaces themselves offer official free materials for beginners: the Uzum seller academy and the Wildberries education center — start there for platform-specific basics.

The Sellers Association of Uzbekistan adds what platform courses lack: live case breakdowns from active sellers, forums and workshops on niche selection, unit economics and taxes, and a community where you can ask those who already sell. Most events are open to beginners.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much money do I need to start selling on marketplaces?
A realistic minimum budget is 5–10 million UZS: a test batch, listing content and an advertising reserve. You can start with less by reselling local goods, but keep a reserve for testing and mistakes.
Do I need to register a business?
Yes. Both Uzum and Wildberries work only with sole proprietors and legal entities that are tax residents of Uzbekistan. Registration is done online within a day.
Which marketplace should I start with in Uzbekistan?
Most start with Uzum Market: local logistics, payments in UZS, growing demand. Wildberries gives a larger audience but higher competition. A sound strategy is to launch on one platform, refine your processes, then add a second.
Can I start without my own product?
Yes: reselling goods from local manufacturers and wholesalers is the most common start. Add your own brand once you have learned to sell on someone else's product.
Is the association's education paid?
The association regularly holds both free and paid events. The schedule with prices is published on the events page.
How does the association help beginners?
Events and case breakdowns from practicing sellers, a community for experience exchange, a catalog of trusted services and consultations on getting started. Begin with the nearest event or message us on Telegram.
